The local history museum of the homeland and culture area Westrich e.v. shows mainly furnishings of the 19th Century with documents and photo for the development of the city and memoires from the extinct municipalities of the today's troop exercise area. In order to be able to visit the museum, one makes a date with Mrs. Lübbers (Tel.: 06783-4447), a Specialist of local history.

The exhibits of the collection Schuhmacher that are interesting for the agate collector are in the basement area, behind an iron door difficult to operate, directly beside from the outside accessible public toilets. Thi s room will be opened only ba special interest.

Both the collection and the room are in a desolate condition. Thus the plank ground broke through again and again with our last visit (only however in each case around Dezimeter) and the above linoleum, which withstood despite everything, probably prevented worse. Most specimen carried still original nicotine layer, which had settled in 35 years, in which they were in the possession of Mr. Schuhmacher , an agate-collector from Ruschberg.

The real disaster was the absence of signatures, indices ore labels. The knowledge around the true discovery sites of the specimen, which had been common once to the Finder, had been lost with its death. So can be unfortunately presented on these website only few specimen. These are on the one hand the very typically formed agates of the Steinkaulenberg near Idar, which are to be found directly here on this side. On the other hand the location of Berglangenbach is supplemented by specimen, since they were unmistakably marked by fixed labels. The discovery site Ausweiler, which lies nowadays on the troop exercise area, is defined trough specimen from this collection. However here to a considerable degree the doubts mentioned above are valid (… that the local allocation to these locality could be also incorrect). Many other discovery sites - partly very interesting - mentioned on labels in the local history museum do not withstand an examination unfortunately.
