home / agates worldwide / Europe / Germany / Baden Wuertemberg / Sulzburg

Agate is occuring in Sulzburg on hydrothermal quartz-veins. These are leading here unfortunately no ores, only quartz and barite. Agate is occuring here also beside Amethyst. The agate is showing here partially intensive-red colours in the beautiful contrast with white matrix. The occurrence of beautiful pseudomorphic formations after barite is interesting. One can make similar findings on the opposite western side of the Rhine in the Vosges Mountains. The storm Lothar opened 1996 large surfaces in this region. It was possible for collectors over several years to make findings of agate directly on the opened veins. Meanwhile the storm damages were again recultivated.
