home / agates worldwide / Europe / Germany / Northrhine-Westfalia / River Rhine Agates

Along the Rhine the possibility exists of finding agates, whose original discovery sites are in West Germany originated, at many gravel pits. Beginning in gravel pits on the height of the black forest to inside to Holland there areare gravel layers with agates from all regions, which the Rhine in its upper run or over supplies drains. The agates occurring here are partially strongly water-worn. A decolourization is to be determined at many of the agates. Nevertheless evident parallels are excisting to the more well-known agate places of discovery, like Saar-Nahe area, Rhinehessia, Black Forest etc.Very interesting agates come also from the gravels of the Nahe, Glan, Elbe and the Mosel.
