Schlottwitz is one of the well known locations for agate-findings. It is situated 4km northeast of Glashuette and 15km south of Dresden. The agate-bearing veins are related to a big tectonical disturbance in the gneiss of the Freiberger-Fürstenwalder-block. The width of the agate-vein can reach 20cm. Very often the agate is fractured. This variety is called ruin-agate.
