Im Jahr 2012 bekam ich die Möglichkeit, selbst Lake Superior Achate zu sammeln durch den Minnesota Mineral Club , der in diesem Jahr die große Achatshow “Celebration of Agates” organisierte. Im Beiprogramm für die Dozenten wurde ein Besuch einer Kiesgrube organisiert, um dort Achate zu suchen. Wie man sieht, hatten wir alle riesige Taschen und ebensolche Erwartungen.

 I got the possibility to “live the laker´s way” in July 2012 on the great agate show ”celebration of agates” in Minnetonka. The Minnesota Mineral Club organized not only the show, they gave a possibillity to enter a gravel pit for collecting agates on the dumps. This foto was made at the beginnig of our excursion. We all had big bags and high expectations.

Einige Stunden später hatten wir ein paar kleine Lake Superior Achate gefunden. Zur Aufmunterung bekammen wir die Gelegenheit, uns an ein paar große Lake Superior Achate zu kuscheln, die aus Reubens Sammlung stammten.

Several hours later we had found some small but awesome laker´s and we got the possibillity to cuddle up with some big agates - recently found in Reuben´s collection.

A completely unexpected discovery.

Auf der “Celebration of Agates” - Show selbst waren wiederum Lake Superior Achate eines der Hauptthemen. Im Ausstellungsbereich wurden fünf Vitrinen präsentiert und an den Verkaufständen präsentierten eine Vielzahl von Sammlern ihre Stücke.

On the “celebration of agates”-show the best collections of lakers were presented - this is only one of five official showcases on the exposition ! Other collectors presented their collections at their booth on the show.

Einen originellen Empfang am Eingang der Messe bot der kleine rote Kinder-Trolley der Costigans: Perfekte Laker mittlerer Größe im Naturzustand.

An original reception at the entrance to the fair offered the small red kids trolley of the Costigans: perfect Lake Superior agates in medium-size in their natural state.
