In the gravel pit Witterschlick  agates with their origins in the Saar-Nahe region are found. Sometimes also pebbles and agates of a more difficult to identify origin are showing up. An example is this agate (9), which encloses a star-quartz. An occurrence of  star-quartz and agate would be unusual for the Saar-Nahe region.

Usually the externally visible shades do not match those from the center - this half polished agate (1) illustrates this phenomenon.
