The “Nohfelder Rholithic Range”, a formation of pale coloured silica-rich igneous rocks, is offering only a few localities for rock-hunting.
Besides the well known locality “Devils Pulpet” near Oberthal, there was a little opportunity to collect an interesting type of jasper between the villages Winterbach and Bliesen.
For a short time a layered rholithic rock, particulary silificated, could get collected. The highly silificated, mostly intensively black coloured parts of the rock could get cut into nice collectors specimen and cabs with a nice silky shining.
