The Hellerberg quarry originated near to the A 62 between Freisen and Reichweiler was famous among collectors into the late 1970ies and early 1980ies years because of the occurrence of beautiful geodes containing beautiful Goethite aggregates and zeolites. In accordance with the saying spread at that time "geodes earn the money - agates cost money" (geodes had only to be cleaned - agates must have been brought to Idar Oberstein for cutting and polishing ) only little attention was given on agates. The special and distincitive attraction of these vein-agates - coloured in all tones of pastels became recognized too late.
Often these agates were after-colored secondary by penetrating iron-bearing solutions. These solutions produced thin lines and cicles and the famous shamrocks in the center of the agate formations.
