According to information of the former quarry owner Hubert Bier from Oberthal agates were found in his quarry at the Leistberg mountain only in a short period in the 1980ies. Since no agates were made despite progressive workings. For several years now, the quarry works as a landfill operation.
The agate occurred here not in lithophysae (“thundereggs”) like at the “Teufelskanzel” (“Devil's pulpit”) or like at the “Rötelweg” . It occured in veins and fissures. The agates were mostly grey or white colored, rarely some red played a role in the pattern. The brekkciated structure of this vein-agates is very interesting.
