home / agates worldwide / Europe / Germany / Thuringia / Spiessberg

For the agate occurrence at the Spießberg near to Friedrichroda the occurrence of  “water-level-agates” is typical. Besides also agates with fortification structure, as well as fillings with macro-crystalline formed quartz are in the relatively small balls (3-5 cm). The agates, which occur in lithophysae of a dark phorphyrite in the proximity of the “Spießberghaus”, are usually white or grey colored.

Further data to the place of discovery is given at R.Haake, “agates collect in Germany, part 1” page 80 - 81 (Bode publishing house, 2000)
