The place of discovery for Paint Rock agates in Sparta is different from the other places of discovery in Tennessee, which are usually somewhere remotely in the forest on private areas. In Sparta a collector can find the agates in a quarry. Entrance to the quarry is granted on request. In Sparta the Paint Rock agagte occurs only very rare as fortification-agate. Usually it is forming mossy-agate-like to jasperlike aggregates in bright yellows, oranges and reds.
