Within the range of Sötern isolate intermediate basalts are opened, similar to those in the Freisen area. A further place of discovery in the Sötern area - Karpensteins Quarry - was filled up in the course of the building of Autobahn A 62.

In the quarry fine vein-agates did show up - similar to those from the Setz Quarry in Kastel.
