Sonora Sunset Agate is a rare variety of agate, found in Sonora, that was purchased in the early 1980ies in Europe. The hostrock is from sedimentary origin. The agates are occuring in dark nodules up to a size of 20 cm in diameter. The opened nodule is presenting first a dark coloured rim containing small agate-systems of different colours. Then follows a intensively coloured banded agate (red and blue are the most desiderated colours). Very often there is a druzy center in the middle of the Sonora Sunset Agate-Nodules.
