home / agates worldwide / Europe / Germany / Thuringia / Seebachfelsen

The agate occurrence is settled in the older Oberhofer Quarzporphyr. For this occurrence the formation of “water-level-agates” is very typical. Most balls (lithophysae) of this occurrence lead however no agate, but macro-crystalline quartz. At these agates the strongly contrasting color change between white and brownish-red is interesting.
