From the north of Chihuahua are originating colorintensive opal nodules. They show usually a 1cm thick white outer-layer and a purple center. Since the core is rarely structuralless translucent , the material brittle and in the polished specimen similar to common amethyst, it was used in jewellery so far only rarely.
