home / agates worldwide / Europe / Germany / Thuringia / Nesselhof

Very beautiful and typically formed agates in lithophysae of a porphyrite are in the proximity of  Nesselhof in the middle of the Thüringian forest. For these agates their usually light brown, partial lightorange color is typical. Along cracks in the agate - as well as within more porous areas - a partial bleaching of the agate enriches the picture. Intensive red colours are rare. Further typical is a green colouring of the agate surrounding rock. The agate-bearing lithophysae of the Nesselhof usually are reaching a size of up to 12 cm.
