The name Paul Geiß is called again and again in Idar Oberstein in connection with locally  archaeology. His preferential area, which this ambitious amateur examined again and again, was the artillery range area. Here he followed the traces of the Romans and Celts. He also recognized a lot of  agate finding locations while his excursions. At one of these places in the Muenzenbach brook in close proximity to Oberstein - however already on troop exercise areas - he discovered a broad jasper-vein which he exploited with the help of the German Federal Armed Forces. The material became  famous in the military -  because it was worked immediately into bases or plates for the honour cups, honour medals, medal boxes etc. in raw and broken specimen or fine finished pieces of art. The Geiß-Jasper reminds probably today still the veteran gentlemen of their time in Idar Oberstein.

It is absolutely forbidden to collect any minerals at this place, because this location is a part of the artillery range area. Militarypolice is controling even this abandoned area regulary.
