Agates of the kind presented here arrived 2002 as "rose agates" -with somewhat inaccurate discovery site designation - varying between Rhodesia and Botswana - into the trade. They originate however from the plateau basalts of the Sambezi region in the mozambicanian province Téte. From Botswana agates these agate nodules differ outwardly first only very little. After the cut of the nodules clear differences become distinctive. The formation of "water-level-agate structures" is widespread with these stones, while it is very rare with Botswana agates. Also the intensively rose-pink to cherry-red (rose-red) colours of the mozambicanian agates are characteristic. Furthermore they are usually not as finely banded as agates from Botswana.
