home / agates worldwide / New Zealand / Lilac Agate, Mount Somers Region

“...The lilac dig was located dig on Mount Somers station in an area that is close to agate collecting sites Cabbage tree creek, Hettie’s slip and Allen’s slip.  Despite its closeness to these sites the agate found, lilac coloured seam agate, is quite different to that occurring at the aforementioned sites.  This agate was found in rock exposed when a farm track was constructed in an area.  Unfortunately this material has been completely worked out now and is unobtainable...”
