Mambaechel is one of the destroyed villages (“Wuestung”) on the artillery range area. The region around the village supplied in the last centuries a multiplicity of beautiful agate- and jasper-varieties ( panthera- or elephant jasper). One of the more known varieties is introduced as “flag agate”. Its original place of formation was re-discovered by Ralf Schmidt, which argues vocationally with the search to missing discovery sites of ancient jewel materials, and the agate collector Karl Fritz from Baumholder .

The material forms vein-agate up to width of 15cm . However the material is showing a lot fractures because it is found near the surface. Beside of that the “flag rocking”  is limited only to the windnear first centimeter of the vein-agates. Impressing Cabochons can be cut out of this material, but no material for manufacturing first class cabinet-specimen was found until now.

It is absolutely forbidden to collect any minerals at this place, because this location is a part of the artillery range area. Militarypolice is controling even this abandoned area regulary.
