In the year 2003 windmills to produce electricity were erected in Leitzweiler. For getting hard rocks as building-material for the roads, a small quarry was opened. In April 2003 hundreds of large nodules were collected - but most of them were filled up with not well defined and chaotically structured white and chalky agate. Only a few of these nodules did show awesome geodes of smoky-quartz - or, as present for the more sophisticated collectors - nicely structured pseudomorphical formations from chalcedony after aragonite. This quarry was the source for the first specimen of common opal found in the Saar-Nahe-Region. In veins up to a width of 8 cm whitish to greenish opal- structured with black dendritic formations - did show up.
