The so-called “Kellerwald-Agate” is not an agate in the usual sense. It is a typical jasper, which is mined in Bergfreiheit in the Kellerwald, south of the Edertalsperre. This is also today still done via the Famile Lange, which possesses the prospecting licenses. The Jaspis occurs usually vein-like and brecciated, in different colors. Most desired is however the red colored jasper.
