Agates from Kaarst are characterized by mostly darker reddish-brown shades and a white outer skin.When agates are transported by water, it is often difficult to specify an original origin. This specimen (11) is obvious: due to the structure of the host rock (a patterned rhyolithe) it can come only from the Devil's pulpit in Oberthal. The Finder of this agate, Raimund Roiko, has meanwhile found a quite similar second specimen.

Due to the statistical abnormality of that finds - the catchment area for Rhineagates is huge and the site of this specimens in Oberthal minuscule (20 m x 30 m), also the distance from the place of origin to Kaarst is pretty much 200 miles - it follows, that the original site of the Devils pulpit must have been significantly greate in earlier times.
