Each foundation engineering activity in Idar Oberstein is accompanied of the watchful eyes of the agate collectors. Much hope was been focussed of the collectors  into the development area, in which itself today the Holunder - and the Weißdornweg are situated. Also a multiplicity of agates was saved.

However these had weathered usually very strongly and crackled to small white agate particles. Only a few agates showed somewhat more stability so that they could be saved. These had to be stabilized however with Cyanacrylate. If it succeeded to overcome all these hurdles, these agates showed very beautiful patterns which developed under the erosion influences, which would have destroyed them nearly.
