home / agates worldwide / Europe / Germany / Thuringia / Felsenschlag

The lithophysae - agates of Felsenschlag are called also “Schneekopf-Kugeln”. The occurrence of these agates is appropriate for about 1 km north the ”Schneekopf”. The agates show intensive, strongly changing colours in white, brown and a bright red - rarely also orange. Beside fortification- banding occurs here also again and again the ”water-level structure”. A single find, which is in the collection Helmut Schumann, shows a  structure of rythmic pigmentation arrangement similar to the “Liesegang ring- phenomenon”.
