East of Montrose an agate finding-location is situated at the northern bank of the Esk, the Aonach Bank. At this place, fine-banded agate pebbles can be collected. An unusual specimen, that is showing a nearly complete desintegration of the agate-banding in its right part (caused by deformation), is part of the collection of the National Museums of Scotland.

More informations about scottish agates are given in Dr.H.G. Macpherson´s book “agates” (published by the British Museum (Natural History) and the National Museums of Scotland).
