home / agates worldwide / Europe / Romania / Cluj-Napoca

Agates from Romania are very rare. The first samples I could buy in the year 2005 at the mineral-show in Munich.

These specimen are agates formed in lithophysae. The matrix is pale and polishable. Its giving a fine contrast to the agate-core in the center. The agates are coloured intensively red, blue and yellowish.

One specimen is showing holospherulites     (completely globular shaped spherulithics ) hovering in blue chalcedony.

A second specimen of this rare type showed up in 2006 while cutting a lot of rough rocks from this locality.

Very interesting specimen from Cluj are showing  pseudomorphs from agate after cleavages from Calcite.
