home / agates worldwide / Asia / Turkey / Etili near Canakkale

Etilli near Canakkale is a relatively new discovery site for Lithophysae agates. This discovery site is appropriate for the classical Troja in the proximity of the Hissarlik hill.

The "Thundereggs" of this region are showing finelined agate of brown, yellow and blue colour inside.

The occurrence from pseudomorphical formations is remarkable. In my collection are two different specimen: one is pseudomorphical after rhombohedrical cristallized carbonates, the other is showing pseudomorphical formations after disc-like trigonal cristallized carbonates.

Also radiating, needle-like inclusions are most interesting in yellowish-brown Chalcedony. These are possibly resulting from selective dissolution features in the Chalcedony.
