At the banks of the little river Burn Anne - south of Galston - intensively coloured vein-agates can be found. Since the 19th century several comercial operations were done to bring these agates into daylight. Mossy-agate-structures are enriching the intensively contrasting pattern of these agates.
More informations about scottish agates are given in Dr.H.G. Macpherson´s book “agates” (published by the British Museum (Natural History) and the National Museums of Scotland).
