home / agates worldwide / Southamerica / Brazil / Rio Grande do Sul / Otto Bühl, 2003

The agate nodules I could buy in the year 2003 from Mr. Otto Buehl are having an approximately size from 45 mm - 90 mm. These nodules are not waterworn, but are showing the influence of erosion on their paled and scarfed skin. The colours of these agates are rainbow-like: you are able to find many shades of yellow, pink, orange, red and brown. You´ll find black and white, even purple and green colours.

Some agate nodules heavily eroded by humidic acid are showing a black and white banded pattern.

Very common is the formation of “Water-level-agates”. Some specimen are showing inclusions of not banded chalcedony - sometimes called “cloudy-agate”.

Very interesting is the formation of pseudomorphs after scalenoedric Calcite.
