home / agates worldwide / Europe / Germany / Thuringia / Baumgartental

The agate occurrence is situated 2 km to the west of Schmerbach in a quartz-porphyrite. For the agates of this place of discovery the strongly contrasting color change of the individual specimen is typical. The colours of the lithophysae agates of the Baumgartental reach of tender pastels up to intensive red, yellow and brown tones. Frequently ruin- and breccia-structures were formated, which were later cemented by agate.
