The region of Mahajunga in the northwestern territories of Madagascar is offering very fine multicoloured specimen of petrified wood. Those specimen are originated in triassic rocks and are belonging to the araucaria species. Some of the specimen are showing sponge-like structures - these are samples of petrified roots of the araucaria. Especially these specimen are showing sometimes inclusions of nice small fortification-agates in pinkish, yellowish and reddish tones.
