home / agates worldwide / Europe / Germany / Saarland / Schmelz, Limbach

In the Limbach-trade area „over Prims “, in particular on the surfaceof the “extension company Meiser” near Schmelz, Saarland good findings could be made by agates. Between October 2009 until October 2010 an approx. 50m² sized vulcanic rocklayer under red sandstone was opened.

Agate nodules were frequently found at this place. But unfortunately most of them were strongly weathered here. In the nodules there was also a high carbonate portion included. To find more rarely vein-agates were in the fresh latite-andesite. To emphasize the pattern picture-determining pseudomorphs after carbonates did occur at this place of discovery. More rarely nodules with holospherulitical formations could be found here (1,2)
