Gruenbach is one of the destroyed villages on the artillery range near baumholder. It is situated in the middle of the target-area: a very dangerous place for rockhounding! Sometimes the employees of the range do have a possibility to search a little for agates ( while searching for not exploded ammunition and so one... ). Time is very short to pick up rocks - thats the reason, why agates from the range area are so extremly rare.

Most agates from Gruenbach are porcelain-like white with fine grey banding. Liesegang rings occur quite rarely. The nodules are flattened and their skin is smooth becaus e of a dense layer of iron-oxides.

Directly north of Gruenbach are the occurences of the colorfull vein-agates in the hillsides of the Gemickel Mountain.

It is absolutely forbidden to collect any minerals at this place, because this location is a part of the artillery range area. Militarypolice is controling even this abandoned area regulary.
