From the thuringian Altenburg there are only several Kilometers distance to the northeast to the saxonian Kohren-Sahlis area. Near to the Gnandstein castle in a small forest a finding-location for banded jasper is situated. It is a silificied pyroclastic rock, colored in greenish, greyish and red to brown tones.
