End of the 1970ies a very fine agate was found on a field by K.Heidemann above the Backesberg quarry. From this intensively red, yellow and blue colored stone four slabs were cut. One of them is in the mineral-collection of the “museum under the church in rock” (in former times “The local history museum of Idar-Oberstein”).

It is absolutely forbidden to collect any minerals at this place, because this location is a part of the artillery range area. Militarypolice is controling even this abandoned area regulary.
