In the Apache Mountains in Alpine County several claimed finding locations are producing beautifully colored and finelined fortfication-agates. The banded agate variety is following an early formed layer of non parallel banded white chalcedony ( so-called flame agate ).

These agates are showing great similarities to those from the neighboured Van Horn Mountains.
