If you were looking north, while standing on europes biggest ancient castle, you can see a steep ridge. On top of this ridge, several well known agate-deposits are located (like Eckersweiler, Mettweiler, Breitsesterhof ... ). Little rivers running down from the ridge brougth a lot of interesting rocks down to the valley. With a lot of fortune you can find very nice samples of good coloured and nicely structureted agate on the acres and fields around the ruins of Lichtenberg castle.
On the castle an interesting new geological museum was etablished by the European Union. More informations about this service at www.urweltmuseum-geoskop.de.
